About Yogic Food

A wholesome, vegetarian lunch made without processed foods gives kids the nourishing energy they need to thrive at our camp. Fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and plant-based proteins provide steady fuel for active days while supporting healthy growth and development. These meals are rich in vitamins, fiber, and antioxidants, helping boost immunity and focus. By enjoying colorful, natural foods, children also build lifelong healthy eating habits and discover that nutritious meals can be delicious, satisfying, and fun. We emphasize building a connection with the food we consume through mindful eating practices.

Outdoor education: Connecting with nature

The outdoor education program at our summer camp immerses students in hands-on, inquiry-driven learning aligned with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), especially those centered on ecosystem dynamics, biodiversity, and scientific investigation. Campers explore local habitats using the acclaimed BEETLE (Better Environmental Education, Teaching, Learning & Expertise) teaching methods developed in collaboration with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, empowering them to ask questions, collect data, and construct explanations like real field scientists. Our trained docents bring years of experience with regional landscapes, leading dynamic field lessons inspired by the Spaces and Species curriculum developed by Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District. Whether identifying native beetles under logs, comparing microhabitats along shaded creek beds, or observing plant-pollinator interactions in open meadows, students gain a deeper connection with nature—and a lasting appreciation for the natural world.

Spending time in nature gives children opportunities to explore, wonder, and grow in ways that indoor environments can’t match. Outdoor experiences help build confidence, resilience, and creativity as kids navigate trails, observe wildlife, and engage in unstructured play. Research shows that time in green spaces supports mental well-being, reduces stress, and boosts attention and problem-solving skills. Nature also nurtures curiosity—inviting children to ask questions, make discoveries, and develop a meaningful connection to the world around them.
